Plan 9 Music files for bankruptcy

This is how out of the loop I’ve been on the local music store scene.

Plan 9 is a Richmond institution - I was planning on going down there today to browse and maybe pick up a couple CDs (as part of this, I want to get back into buying physicial music again) and I found this article when I was searching for their website this morning (because I wanted to make sure they were still in business - how sad is that?)

The good news is that they’re trying to keep the store open and restructure. The bad news is they’re in bankruptcy and fighting against a music scene where most of the purchasing that’s going on is either vinyl (a niche business still) or digital.

But I’ll do what I can to support them. Buying as much of my music as I can there this year.

There’s something serendipitous and just awesome about browsing in a good record store or book store. I had it happen yesterday when I found a book I never would have heard of or chosen to read otherwise. And music stores serve the same purpose. We’d all be poorer without them in our lives.
