This is the greatest thing I have ever seen on the Internet.
The Brilliant "Don't Be Evil" Bookmarklet →
parislemon:
Kudos to Facebook (with some help from Twitter and MySpace) for having the balls to do this. It’s a bookmarklet that replaces Google’s new “People and Pages” area, the hardcoded social search area, and the search completion drop-down, with organic results.
In other words, it makes the new Google behave more like the old Google.
There has been a lot of back and forth in recent...

Charlavail’s Traveling Confectionery
I think this idea is brilliant. Low overhead to cover (a huge problem in opening a small business.) Vail gets to combine her two loves - art and travel. And it allows people around the country to experience the art; not just the people who can make it to Orlando.
Awesome, awesome idea.

“Rejecting people was the hot pastime. We had a lot of sex. Everyone talked about the year 2018. One day we pretended to be ghosts.”
“As we started moving down the Hudson River I wrapped my head in a fluffy towel, started to sob inauthentically and then used one of the gift-box lotions I found…
If you actually finish(ed) this book, I’ll be amazed. I never did.

Who’s one person you follow on Tumblr that I should be following?
Billboard Top Alternative Songs →
Made a Rdio playlist of the Billboard Top 40 Alternative Songs, which I’ll keep updated weekly.
Some good songs…and some REALLY bad songs on there. It’s an interesting listen though, especially if you don’t listen to the radio much.
Best Coast on working with Jon Brion →
So stoked for this record. I have a feeling it’s going to be absolutely amazing.

That one Portlandia sketch is based on my everyday life—and probably yours, too.
Truth.
Just listening to this over and over and over.
Our teacher had merely fallen under the spell, like countless others before and...
– Benjamin Anastas, The Foul Reign of Emerson’s “Self-Reliance”
I heard Anastas on On Point last night (listen here) and thoroughly enjoyed his feeding of Emerson into the woodchipper. I’ve always been leery of transcendentalism and thought that “Self-Reliance” was a rank, sniveling, selfish little...
Against Adulthood →
I don’t have time to fully respond to this, but comments 3, 4, 6 and 7 at the bottom of the article pretty much sum up what I’d want to say anyway.
Look - I accept that the life I’ve chosen isn’t for everyone. But a full-on broadside like this seems written just to provoke angry responses.
And as for marriage and children, I think leaving love out of the equation is a...
Plan 9 Music files for bankruptcy →
This is how out of the loop I’ve been on the local music store scene.
Plan 9 is a Richmond institution - I was planning on going down there today to browse and maybe pick up a couple CDs (as part of this, I want to get back into buying physicial music again) and I found this article when I was searching for their website this morning (because I wanted to make sure they were still in...

This SO sums up my ambivalence towards my Kindle. Sometimes I think it’s the greatest invention on Earth and sometimes I never, ever want to read another book on it again.
ayeshajain asked: Brent - I love some of the more introspective posts you write. You really capture some of those thoughts that I can't quite find a logical way to express out loud. You're a fantastic writer.
I listened to a tour guide at the National Gallery ask his group what made...
